Multiplication Four in a Row: Claim Products, Build a Line

Multiplication Four in a Row game cover illustration

One factor move can give you a product and block your partner’s next line.

A multiplication board with two shared factors

Both players use the same two factor markers. On your turn, move one marker to a different number from 1 to 9. The two factors multiply to one product on the 6×6 board; if that cell is still open, you claim it. The first player to connect four claimed cells horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins. Each new board shuffles the same set of products. Both players take turns on one device; there are no remote rooms or computer opponent.

Multiplication and strategy in the same move

  • Recall products from the 1–9 times tables.
  • Use one unchanged factor to predict which products are reachable next.
  • Plan a four-cell line while blocking a rival line.

How to play

  1. Choose one of the two shared factor markers.
  2. Choose a new value for that marker. Disabled choices lead to a product that has already been claimed.
  3. The resulting product is claimed for your side. Take turns until someone connects four cells or no open product is reachable.

Classroom use

Let two students share a tablet or project the board for two teams. Before each factor move, ask the player to say the product and point out a possible line or block. The game does not collect student names or create a remote match.

Q: Why is a number disabled?

A: It would leave the selected marker unchanged or make a product that is already claimed.
