Fraction War: Build a Fraction and Win the Round

Fraction War game cover illustration

Four cards. Two choices. The greater fraction takes the round.

Choose your fraction before the reveal

Each side receives four number cards. Choose any two cards to make a proper fraction: the smaller number becomes the numerator and the larger becomes the denominator. Play eight rounds against a computer or a friend on the same device. In local two-player mode, each side makes its choice separately before both fractions are revealed. The larger fraction wins one point, and equal fractions tie. The result shows fraction bars and exact cross products, so you can see why a round went one way.

Compare fractions with evidence

  • Compare two proper fractions without guessing from numerator size alone.
  • Use cross multiplication to decide which fraction is greater.
  • Connect a symbolic fraction to a segmented fraction bar.

How to play

  1. Choose computer or local two-player mode and start the match.
  2. Pick two of your four number cards; the game places the smaller number over the larger one.
  3. Play your fraction. In local mode, pass the device before the second player chooses. Check the bars and cross products after the reveal.

A short fraction discussion

Ask players to predict whether a new pair will be closer to one before they play it. After the reveal, have them explain the two cross products. Local mode uses one device and hides the first player’s choice while the second chooses.

Fraction War questions

Q: Can I play Fraction War alone?

A: Yes. The default mode gives the computer its own four cards. You can also choose a local two-player match.

Q: Can I make an improper fraction?

A: No. The smaller chosen card always becomes the numerator, so each fraction is below one.

Q: How are equal fractions scored?

A: Equal fractions tie the round. Neither side receives a point.
